Discover the mystical Achanakmar Tiger Reserve, just 5 kilometers away from ANAND VAN RESORT & RESTAURANT.

Established in 1975 and declared a tiger reserve in 2009, this sanctuary holds captivating legends of its origin.

One tale narrates the unfortunate incident of a British man falling victim to a sudden tiger attack, hence earning the name “Achanakmar” meaning sudden attack. Another legend suggests a skirmish between the Gonds and Baiga tribes, leading to the phrase “SIR Achanak Maar Ho Gai” (Sir, a sudden attack happened) and giving rise to the name.

This rich ecosystem boasts tropical moist deciduous vegetation, hosting over 1400 species of flora and 300 species of fauna. The Maniyari river flows through its heart, nurturing its diverse wildlife. Achanakmar serves as a vital corridor linking Kanha and Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserves, facilitating the movement of tigers among these regions.
